Synopsis
Everyone at some point has probably done something they wish
they could take back. Madison Hanson's past mistakes have made her feel like a
shadow. Her grades suck, her social life is non-existent and her home life
isn't much better. Just when she thought things couldn't get any worse, the
sudden and tragic death of a fellow student forces Madison to reevaluate
everything she thought she believed in.
Fate intervenes in the form of Dean Jackson, a popular "Mr.
Everything" at school whose life is the polar opposite of Madison's. What
starts as a simple tutoring session blossoms into an unlikely relationship, proving
that opposites do sometimes attract. With Dean's help, Madison discovers a new
life outside of the darkness she has cloaked herself in, and the power of
forgiveness, acceptance, caring and love.
MY REVIEW
Miss Me Not is an amazing book describing the deepest darkest moments of a teenagers life. Just when Madison thought there was nothing to live for, she found hope in the most unexpected way. Miss Me Not is not a book about suicide, but about hope and finding something to live for.
This book is a must read for all parents to understand if not their teenager, their teenager's friend.
MY EXPERIENCE
I haven't experienced suicide, but I have a few childhood friends who committed suicide in middle school. A good friend of mine all throughout middle school committed suicide. She hung herself in her parents garage and they didn't find her until a week later. Suicide is tragic and it happens more than you would think. It seems to be growing in numbers due to neglect, verbal abuse, peer pressure and many other reasons. Together, suicide is something that we can conquer! Spend time with your children, encourage them to engage socially with others their age.
Recently, my teenage son had two friends that continued talking about suicide and wanting to die, that it would be better off if they were dead and no one would care. I found this by accident, being the good mother I am and doing a random unannounced check on his cell phone and Facebook page. Immediately, I made contact with the appropriate people and they are now receiving the help they need. It breaks my heart to know these young, amazing teenagers feel this way.
Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Our future generation needs to know, things will not always be this way, they will get better. Suicide is never the solution.
Talk to your teens daily, encourage them, tell them how much you love them. The solution begins with YOU!
